This upcoming game is already dominating the Steam sales charts, suggesting that there may be more to the low-key shooter than meets the eye.
The game in question is Remnant 2, which has received positive reviews so far and is expected to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, offering an even more advanced gaming experience. The game temporarily topped Steam’s best-selling games list, ahead of popular titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3. Remnant 2’s appeal lies in its secrets and discovery process, and its wide variety of unlockable character classes and hidden content make it especially appealing to Destiny 2 players.
In the case of Remnant 2, the game seems to be doing well based on the upcoming pre-release sales figures. Although the Souls-esque third-person shooter has the feel of the original Remnant: From the Ashes, it wants to do more and better in practically everything, and those who have already enjoyed the game in early access say that the developer has really hit something.
As most of the Remnant 2 reviews have pointed out, Gunfire Games has successfully built on the foundations laid by its predecessor, and it’s exactly what many fans wanted. It looks like the developer’s efforts to do the same but better have already paid off as the game has topped the most popular PC game sales list.
Forbes’ Paul Tassi was quick to note that Remnant 2 is at the top of Steam’s best-selling games list, meaning it has overtaken big guns like Baldur’s Gate 3 or even CSGO, if only briefly. While Remnant 2’s early access to Ultimate Edition owners certainly plays a part in its success, it’s also worth mentioning that the game isn’t a full-price AAA edition, so it’s cheaper than most of the other main releases. At the same time, you can also see that the game is full of secrets, so the discovery process contributes significantly to the appeal: community members have already found more than half a dozen secret, unlockable character classes.
So it’s understandable why some might feel that Remnant 2 could be the new home for Destiny 2 players, as the Destiny community is a big fan of mysterious, dedicated PvE experiences. Now that Remnant 2’s zeitgeist significance is becoming more and more apparent, it’s easy to see why many people want to jump right into the experience and help the community explore as much as possible.
It certainly helps that Remnant 2’s randomly generated campaigns are full of hidden content. According to Ben Cureton, lead designer working on Remnant 2, even players who have spent hundreds of hours in the game haven’t seen everything the game has to offer. Excited players who jump into the game early through the Ultimate Edition will surely help the game rise to the top of Steam’s best-selling games list.
Unfortunately, not all work is successful. Remnant 2, for example, could launch without cross-platform play, which could put a big dent in the co-op shooter on release day. Still, there’s a good chance that Gunfire Games will try to fix this as soon as possible to keep the community unified across all platforms, and if the game’s early performance is anything to go by, Remnant 2 could still be a big hit for the studio.
Remnant 2 releases on July 25 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
