Long Forgotten, Important Batman Character Returns To DC Canon!

MOVIE NEWS – Long-forgotten daughter of Batman is back in the mainstream canon of the DC Universe. But Huntress’ future remains uncertain. (WARNING: Spoilers for Justice Society of America #5!)

The long-forgotten daughter of Batman, Helena Wayne “Huntress”, is finally returning to the main canon of the DC Universe. Helena has been reintroduced to the DC Universe through the new Justice Society of America series. Huntress travels through time to find the missing Doctor Fate and save the JSA from imminent destruction courtesy of Degaton. She meets a younger version of her father in his prime during her journey.

Naturally, Huntress is forced to tell her father all about it in Justice Society of America #5, written by Geoff Johns, Mikel Janin, Jerry Ordway, Jordie Bellaire, John Kalisz, Rob Leigh, Marquis Draper, Andrew Marino and Katie Kubert. She not only tells him Degaton’s plans for his time but also warns her father of his death. Batman immediately realises that learning this information will jeopardise Helena’s future. He is later proven correct. For when Degaton is defeated, and the other heroes return to their own timelines, Helena is the only one stuck where she is. Because she has no future to go to.

Huntress is back in DC’s main Batman canon

Helena Wayne is the Earth 2 huntress, daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle. In her world, her father is murdered by a common criminal who gains power from the sorcerer Frederic Vaux to avenge the man he believes has wronged him: Bruce Wayne. When she grows older, Helena dons the Catwoman mask and Batman’s cape to become her own hero, Huntress and a member of the Justice Society of America. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, this version of Huntress was lost to time in favour of Helena Bertinelli (who is unrelated to either Batman or Catwoman). However, thanks mainly to the Manhattan Doctor’s perversion of continuity, Helena Wayne is on Prime Earth, now in DC’s main canon. However, it seems that Batman doesn’t want her there.

For several reasons, Huntress’ existence in DC’s main canon now makes Batman’s job considerably harder, and not just in one respect.

Not just in terms of continuity and time. But also because Batman will have to transform some things in his own life. He also has to worry about his daughter, who is out of his time. It is unclear, at least for now, whether Batman thinks he “can’t stay here” because of the complications of time/continuity or because he doesn’t really want her there.

Moreover, as this issue marks the end of this arc of the series, it is unclear what the future holds for Huntress. He is in a similar predicament to Connor Kent not so long ago. Connor was stranded outside the main DC continuity following the Convergence event. Now that he’s back, no one remembers who he really is. As a result, Superboy is finding it hard to find his place in the Superman family. It is assumed that Huntress is having similar problems within the bat family. Only time will tell, but ironically it is time that is the issue for Huntress.
