The Peripheral: Bad News For Fans Of The Great Sci-Fi Series!

MOVIE NEWS – The sequel to Amazon’s The Peripheral, based on William Gibson’s work, was thought to be on track but was eventually cancelled.

It’s over. The Peripheral, one of the best sci-fi series in recent years, has been cancelled. The news comes despite Amazon renewing the series for a second season back in February. Based on the novel of the same name by William Gibson, the series was set to debut on Amazon on 21 October 2022.

It starred Chloë Grace Moretz and was executive produced by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan as part of their richly pooled deal with Amazon.

According to a person familiar with the situation, the ongoing writers and actors strike heavily influenced the decision not to go ahead with season 2. Essentially, even if production on the series resumed tomorrow, season 2 would not be available until 2025.

According to the official logline, the series “centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her.”

In addition to Moretz, the cast of the first season included Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Louis Herthum, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Charlotte Riley, Alexandra Billings, Adelind Horan, Alex Hernandez, Katie Leung, Julian Moore-Cook, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy and Austin Rising.

Scott B. Smith developed the series for television and served as executive producer and showrunner. Nolan and Joy were producers for Kilter Films. Vincenzo Natali was the executive producer and director, and Athena Wickham and Steven Hoban were also executive producers. Amazon Studios and Warner Bros. Television produced in association with Kilter Films.

The Peripheral was the first series to debut under Nolan and Joy’s deal with Amazon, reportedly worth $150 million. The duo also produces a series based on the “Fallout” video game franchise. That project has no premiere date yet, though. The series is said to have finished filming earlier this year.
