Original ‘Snow White’ Director’s Son Blasts Disney: ‘This Isn’t the Disney I Knew!

MOVIE NEWS – Disney’s upcoming 2024 rendition of ‘Snow White’ has stirred controversy, especially with the casting of Rachel Zegler, a dark-skinned actress, in the lead role. David Hand, son of the director of the 1937 ‘Snow White’, weighs in on the project, suggesting that both his father and Walt Disney would disapprove of this version.

In recent years, Disney has embarked on a trend of transforming its classic animated films into live-action adaptations, a trend that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. The latest in line, ‘Snow White’, promises to modernize the original tale, incorporating narrative shifts. David Hale Hand, son of the original film’s director, expressed his displeasure with the direction of these changes to The Telegraph. Hand asserted that those celebrating the new film’s progressiveness probably haven’t witnessed the original animated feature and don’t grasp its essence.

According to Hand, the original ‘Snow White’ film, crafted by his father and Walt Disney, was made with impeccable taste. He firmly rejects the new direction that aims to modernize the classics. He feels that Disney is exploiting the original creation to market a revamped, “woke” version.

Furthermore, the director’s son opined that studios should be pursuing fresh ideas instead of attempting to rewrite time-tested classics. He also mentioned personally knowing Adriana Caselotti, the voice actress for the original Snow White, stating that she would be “appalled” by the claims that the initial film was anti-feminist.

The new ‘Snow White’ is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2024. The film’s production has wrapped up, with post-production currently underway. Rachel Zegler, the actress portraying Snow White, has already responded to the critiques aimed at her due to the role.
