Lenovo Legion Go: It Will Support AR; Will Its Battery Last?

TECH NEWS – The Lenovo Legion Go will rival the Steam Deck, and the hardware promises to be beefy enough.

Windows Report reported that Lenovo’s portable PC will come with AR glasses, so augmented reality content will also work on the platform. Lenovo took a hybrid approach by default with the Legion Go. It borrowed some popular elements from rivals and implemented them in a single device. Lenovo’s product could be a winner with detachable joysticks (Nintendo Switch Joy-Con), a design similar to Steam Deck, and specifications resembling the Asus ROG Ally.

Lenovo wants to break through with AR glasses, as augmented reality hasn’t made its way to handheld devices yet, and the company intends to offer an immersive gaming experience. Apple Vision Pro will introduce a similar solution next year, but you’ll have to pay a lot more for it (and it will be a different product, aside from considering the AR support). However, the Lenovo Legion Go also has its drawbacks…

The AR glasses connect via a USB-C, so the company may still have issues with power delivery, and thus, performance might be questionable. If Lenovo uses a 75Wh (19500 mAh) battery similar to the Ayaneo Kun, there should be no problem. The display might be 8″ with smaller bezels. Then there’s also the usual combination of buttons with a trackpad, triggers at the back, and a stand to place the device anywhere. The Legion Pro could use AMD’s Ryzen Z1 APU, and given what we see in the Asus ROG Ally, not a bad choice, and we hope the Extreme version will catch on.

The only question is how much battery life is coupled with sufficiently hefty hardware, as Lenovo wants to power the AR glasses through the handheld. We’ll know everything (including pricing) soon, as Windows Report says it could launch during IFA 2023 in Berlin, an event scheduled for September…
