MOVIE NEWS – The Pope’s Exorcist has become a giant Netflix hit, but many people don’t know what happened to the real person who was used as the model for Rosaria’s character.

 

 

The Pope’s Exorcist is a gruesome horror and thriller film that has captivated and terrified audiences. The film is partly based on a true story, including the fate of Rosaria, one of the characters. The film was produced by Sony Pictures and released in 2023. It tells the story of Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican’s chief exorcist. Amorth finds he has to fight a greater adversary than ever before: Satan and a band of demons. In the course of this battle, he becomes involved in a serious investigation that leads to the discovery of a centuries-old Vatican secret.

Surprisingly, many parts of The Pope’s Exorcist are based on actual events: for example, the story follows some aspects of the history of the Catholic Church in relation to the Spanish Inquisition.

One of the characters in the film, Rosaria (Bianca Bardoe), is also based on a real person whose gruesome story has been a subject of public interest for decades.

The character of Rosaria in The Pope’s Exorcist is supposed to be a metaphor for the true story of a young woman named Emanuela Orlandi. In the film, Rosaria comes to Father Amorth and tells him that she is possessed by a demon who rapes her every night. Amorth turns his back on her and refuses to perform an exorcism to rid her of the demon. Rosaria then leaps to her death in front of Amorth. The father is wracked with guilt. He admits to mistreating her mental illness and hints that she was sexually abused at the Vatican.

 

 

 

 

This is linked to the real story of Emanuela Orlandi. Orlandi is the daughter of a Vatican employee who disappeared in June 1983, aged just 15, on her way home from a music lesson in Rome. Orlandi was never seen again. Many suspect that the Vatican may be involved in Orlandi’s disappearance. This theory was explored in depth in the Netflix documentary series Vatican Girl.

The real Father Gabriele Amorth, in May 2012, said that he believed Orlandi was abducted for sex parties by a member of the Vatican police and then murdered.

The Italian authorities accused the Vatican of not cooperating with the investigation into the case. This adds to the suspicion that they were involved.

This ghostly case has haunted people since Orlandi’s disappearance in 1983. Since then, it has still not been possible to find out what happened to Orlandi. However, the case was reopened in 2023 by the Vatican’s Commissioner for Justice, Alessandro Diddi.

This was after repeated requests from Emanuela’s older brother Pietro, who never gave up hope of finding out what really happened to his sister.

The Pope’s Exorcist is one of Netflix’s biggest hits. The true stories behind it only make it more interesting for viewers. Between the docu-series Vatican Girl and Rosaria’s character, there is renewed interest and outrage around the Emanuela Orlandi affair. Many people are still hoping that one day, the truth will come out about what happened to the real Rosaria, Emanuela Orlandi, and whether the Vatican might have had something to do with it.
