Despite Being 2 Years Away, Far Cry 7 Is Leaking In Earnest!

Either it’s an elaborate hoax or someone at Ubisoft can’t keep their mouth shut. The latter seems realistic.

Far Cry games have historically not been superlative lately (maybe the second or the third installment was the high point). Still, in the past, we could talk about highly innovative works (Far Cry 2, in particular, was ahead of its time). Far Cry 6 didn’t dare to innovate much, following the average Ubisoft formula. Therefore, we can rightly expect the next installment to present more innovations from Ubisoft’s Toronto studio.

According to Tom Henderson, who has written about many Ubisoft games in the past, Far Cry 7 has a “non-linear” story where it is up to the player to decide how they complete the campaign missions. Henderson wrote that a conspiracy theorist cult has kidnapped the head of a wealthy family called the Sons of Truth, and it’s up to the rest of the family to find the lost character and decide the order of events. There is also a time limit in the game: you have 72 hours to rescue the character in question. That’s the equivalent of about 24 hours in real-time, so in Far Cry 7, time passes three times faster. Based on our decisions, some of our family members may die, affecting the story.

Henderson also reported on the gameplay’s new interrogation element, which may divide the audience. It won’t be a simple “torture the other person and they’ll answer” approach, as they can lie to your face, refuse to talk, or even run away from you. We should add that all of it is not official, but as Henderson has been accurate in the past about Ubisoft games, maybe there is something to it.

Far Cry 7 is codenamed Project Blackbird, and it’s supposedly set for release in late (autumn) 2025. By then, it’s almost certain to be on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC only (also Amazon Luna). There’s another multiplayer project in the works, in the vein of Escape from Tarkov (Project: Maverick, set in Alaska?). According to Henderson, there will not be a game set on an island near Korea (Far Cry: Rise).
