Bruce Lee’s last completed film is back in theaters

The powerful work of the Hong Kong martial artist legend will be available again on the big screen from the end of October by Pannónia Movie Kft.
Although nowadays Bruce Lee is mainly known by young people only by name, face, or Quentin Tarantino’s parodic portrayal in Once Upon a Time… from Hollywood, the magnitude of his influence is an undoubted fact. Staying with Tarantino, it is enough to think back to Kill Bill, in which the yellow and black dress of the Bride is perhaps the most famous tribute to the career of the star who died 50 years ago. But we can also mention Jackie Chan, who sounds more familiar to today’s generation, who created his own characters, usually called Jackie, in response to the characters of Lee’s career, in order that, as a completely different figure, Chan would not even accidentally become a successor to Bruce, even if it is inevitable in his fight scenes the comparison.
1973’s The Dragon Became Bruce Lee’s last fully finished work, which was shown in his home country 6 days after his death, before his modest American funeral, while in Hong Kong approx. 30,000 people attended his official farewell party. The film arrived in the USA with a delay of 1 month, while in Hungary, 13 years later, in July 1986, the film was first shown. And you will be able to see it now, on the 50th anniversary of the film!
Pannónia Movie Kft.’s four multiplexes in Budapest, i.e. Cinema MOM, Pólus Cinema, GoBuda Cinema and Lurdy Cinema, will be available in the evenings from October 26 to November 1. The work received a digitally restored 4K image for the half-century anniversary, but this time, in addition to the MOM, all other screenings will also run with Hungarian subtitles.
Those who are only superficially familiar with the actor’s oeuvre and might want to read more after hearing the news should not be confused by the fact that Lee’s filmography includes 1972’s Way of the Dragon, because the two works have nothing to do with each other, they are only nominally connected them the nickname of the star. However, the above examples were not mentioned by chance: The young Jackie Chan appears in a small role in The Dragon, and the protagonist, who is simply called Lee (because Chan is often called Jackie in the stories) here wears the yellow overalls, i.e. this is where the scene comes from, with which most people identify it, which immediately brings to mind the image of Bruce Lee when we hear his name somewhere.
The plot revolves around a saol tournament organized on an island, to which Lee is invited, but the host is being spied on by the British Secret Service in connection with several crimes, so of course they find him to snoop for them, because bureaucratic constraints tie the organization’s hands Han because of the territorial authority of his island, and there is also a chance that one of his possible murders has personal connections from Lee’s life. If we really strip it down, something similar was made with Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal in the main roles, and since then it has become a meme 2022 The base of the unbearable weight of the gigantic talent, only here instead of the comedy elements, the emphasis is on drama and sports film parts in addition to espionage/wrestling.
Of course, due to the sports film situation and the celebrities trained by Lee who also excel in sports (e.g. Chuck Norris), the cinema had a huge impact on the world of martial arts, something related to this became the nickname of many. Moreover, it has even crept into places that are very far from combat sports, such as snooker, where the Chinese Ding Junhui has been wearing the original full title of the work, “Enter the Dragon” for almost 20 years, when entering the table.
