Bob Marley’s Son Protests Against Labelling

MOVIE NEWS – Bob Marley’s son doesn’t consider himself a child, that is, he vehemently refutes the view that the famous man’s child gets on much easier in life than the offspring of ordinary mortals. “It doesn’t work that way,” Rohan Marley, 51, told People magazine. – It’s natural for someone to respect their parents’ intellectual heritage, but just look at how many people don’t. Nepotism does not exist for me. You are who you are. Heritage exists, bloodline exists, but you have to be yourself, in your own right.”

Rohan is true to his family heritage as he cherishes the Rastafarian traditions promoted by his father. With this in mind, he launched the Lion Order movement last year, which pays tribute to the dreadlocks lifestyle by distributing medical products, which includes medical cannabis and the tools necessary for its consumption.

Rohan’s brother, Ziggy, is the executive producer of the film about Bob Marley’s life, Bob Marley: One Love, and the producers include one of the widows of the musician and spiritual leader, Rita Marley, who died of cancer at the age of 36, and one of also his daughter, Cedella Marley.

The film presents three years of Marley’s life, the period 1976-78, which was decisive for the musician. “These few years show us everything we need to understand Bob the man, to experience everything he went through spiritually and emotionally as a father, husband and musician,” the director Reinaldo Marcus Green told Blavity magazine.

The year 1976 was an important turning point in Marley’s life, as he was almost shot dead when seven gunmen attacked him in his home in Kingston. Marley was wounded in the chest and arm, his wife Rita was shot in the head, the band’s manager and one of the musicians were also shot, but miraculously no one died. The assassination was allegedly ordered by the CIA because the highly respected Marley called for peace in Jamaica, which was experiencing a period of political upheaval, and was a tacit supporter of the reigning prime minister. Two days after the attack, Marley held his planned concert even though he was wounded.
