Almost 140 Million Nintendo Switch Units Sold!

The Japanese company announced new sales figures in its quarterly financial report.

In the last three months of 2023, 6.9 million Nintendo Switch units were sold (as always, we don’t know the precise sales figures for the base, Lite and OLED models) and 66.87 million games were sold by the big N. This brings the total Nintendo Switch sales to 139.36 million and the company sold 1200.1 million games. (So they’re over a billion, which isn’t bad. So, on average, they’ve sold 8.61 games per console so far…)

Let’s look at the top 10 first-party, internally developed games:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 60.58 million
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 44.79 million
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 33.67 million
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 31.61 million
Super Mario Odyssey – 27.65 million
Pokémon Sword/Shield – 26.17 million
Pokémon Scarlet/Violet – 24.36 million
Super Mario Party – 20.34 million
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 20.28 million
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 17.20 million

And as always, we’ve heard more sales figures from the big N. Super Mario Bros. Wonder has a blowout performance, and Super Mario RPG Remake has nothing to be disappointed about:

Luigi’s Mansion 3 – 13.98 million
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury – 13.17 million
Nintendo Switch Sports – 12.48 million
Mario Party Superstars – 12.31 million
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – 11.96 million (new title!)
Splatoon 3 – 11.71 million
Pikmin 4 – 3.33 million
Super Mario RPG Remake – 3.14 million (new title!)

Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo’s president, didn’t provide any details on the Switch’s successor, but he did reveal that the big N’s plans for the next fiscal year (it starts in April) will be unveiled in May. So he’ll definitely have something to say about the Japanese company’s next platform at that time, but we can’t expect an official unveiling in three months. This will probably take place during the summer.

Rumor has it that there will be a Nintendo Direct, sometime on February 15. We’ll see.
