Monster Hunter News: The Franchise Soars [VIDEO]

Capcom has announced news about three games, and we’ve bundled them together.

The Japanese company announced that more than 25 million copies of Monster Hunter: World have been shipped to stores and sold digitally, including Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition. The base game was released a little over six years ago, and the Iceborne expansion was released a year and a half later. In both cases, the game (or expansion) did not appear on Steam until several months later.

“Celebrating its 20th anniversary in March 2024, the Monster Hunter series consists of hunting action games that pit players against giant monsters in beautiful natural environments. Beginning with the first title in 2004, the series established a new genre in which players work together to hunt ferocious monsters with their friends, and has since become a global phenomenon with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 97 million units as of December 31, 2023.

With Monster Hunter: World, Capcom elevated the Monster Hunter series to global brand status with the series’ first simultaneous worldwide launch and international promotional activities, establishing the game as Capcom’s best-selling title of all time within a month of its release. In the six years since the game’s launch, Capcom has continued to drive digital sales, helping Monster Hunter: World to a new Capcom all-time record of 25 million cumulative units sold. In addition, last December, Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Wilds and received widespread attention with the announcement that the latest title in the series will be released in 2025. Capcom remains firmly committed to meeting the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities to create highly enjoyable gaming experiences,” Capcom wrote.

Monster Hunter Stories was released for Nintendo 3DS in 2016, and the RPG is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) on June 14. Pre-orders will include Navirou’s King and Queen costumes. There will be a physical release for PlayStation 4 in Europe (the Switch version will get it in North America), but the Monster Hunter Stories Collection will also include Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin alongside the first part. And that’s the third piece of news: this game will also be released on PlayStation 4 on June 14th. The pre-order is for Ena’s Kamura Maiden costume; that game came out in July 2021 for Nintendo Switch and PC, so the PlayStation 4 version is the new addition.
