Is Ubisoft Preparing to Announce Far Cry 7?

As Far Cry has become one of Ubisoft’s core franchises in the two decades since its launch, it’s understandable that a new installment is often planned, but unlike Call of Duty, the French publisher doesn’t plan an annual release.

Regarding Far Cry 7, a leaker more associated with the Assassin’s Creed franchise, j0nathan, posted a suspicious tweet. The French language isn’t important (roughly translated as “if nothing changes, then…”), but the images are. The first image is of Cillian Murphy. The second is a 72-hour countdown clock on a bunch of sticks of dynamite. The third is a crab. The fourth is a number seven. At first glance, these don’t have much to do with each other.

However, Insider Gaming previously wrote that in the story of Far Cry 7, you have to save your family within a certain time frame. Currently, the clock in the game is 24 hours in real time and 72 hours in the game, but when you enter one of our hideouts, the clock stops. 72 hours, and the number seven is two out of four. What about Murphy and the shrimp? Well, we’d rather have a better chance of winning the lottery than guessing what @xj0nathan was thinking… maybe the antagonist will be called Cillian or Murphy.

He then added in a later tweet that he was NOT suggesting that Cillian Murphy would be in the game, and that the image meant something else. So maybe we should look in the direction of what he was in, but that still doesn’t explain what the hell he was thinking about regarding the crab. The first thing that comes to mind is the food offered at the very beginning of Far Cry 4 (crab rangoon), but that might be too far from what the image actually means.

Far Cry 7 has not yet been announced by Ubisoft, and if we had to guess when Yves Guillemot and his team will do so, the answer would clearly be at the Ubisoft Forward in June…
