TECH NEWS – No, Elon Musk did not volunteer his sperm to found a Martian colony…
Billionaire tech leader Elon Musk is undoubtedly very hands-on in his work, but apparently not to that extent. The mogul denied an article in the New York Times, according to which he would have volunteered his sperm to help create a Mars colony.
A July 11 report suggested that Musk had quietly instructed his team to design an extraterrestrial habitat that could survive the hostile environment on Mars.
One team is looking at designs for “small domed habitats,” including the materials that could be used to build them. Another is working on spacesuits that could survive the frigid alien climate of Mars, which consists of 95% carbon dioxide and only 0.13% oxygen. A third team is researching whether people can have children there.
The report quoted “two people familiar with his comments” as saying that Musk “volunteered his sperm to help seed a colony.”
However, Musk has since publicly denied these claims in a response to a post on X that shared the article.
“Best to hear it in the words I have used in many interviews over the years. I have not fwiw ‘volunteered my sperm,'” said Musk.
“No one at SpaceX has been directed to work on a Mars city. When people have asked to do so, I’ve said we need to focus on getting there first.”
Despite Musk’s denials at X, the rumour continued to spread like wildfire in newsrooms and social media. Musk reportedly told employees that he plans to build a city of one million people on Mars by 2050. In 2020, Musk shared that his ultimate goal would be to launch an average of three spacecraft per day, or 1,000 flights per year.
Musk once hinted at the possibility of using Bitcoin as a means of payment on Mars, although he initially dismissed the idea.
