Civilization 6 Removed an Unpopular Element; The Sequel Will Do the Same!

2K’s (=Take-Two’s) game kicked something out the door during a big update that element that not many people liked, and the new episode will follow this path in the future.

There is an inconvenience for PCs. Almost every publisher has its own launcher, and you have to use it more than once to start the game, but in a short time there can be up to half a dozen among the shortcuts on your desktop. And 2K has one too. And that’s what Civilization 6 needed. It is quite inconvenient when you start a game on Steam, and then you have to start another launcher afterwards. Civ 6 decided to skip this step.

Firaxis confirmed that the update published on August 14 freed Civilization 6 from the need for a launcher imposed by the publisher. The change is currently only valid for Steam users, the spokesperson of Firaxis confirmed that this convenient step will also be implemented on the Epic Games Store, but in the case of the 4X strategy game, in any case, you have to wait a little longer on Tim Sweeney’s interface.

Firaxis added that Civilization 7 will not suffer from this problem either, citing player feedback as a justification. Of course, this does not mean that all of the studio’s games will get rid of the 2K Launcher (for example, if a new XCOM were to be developed, it would probably remain there), but for their older games, they are considering removing it, so XCOM 2, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, as well as Civilization 5, can soon throw this uncomfortable burden off your neck.

In 2022, it annoyed the players too much when they stuffed the 2K Launcher into games that didn’t originally have it. The three BioShocks were in these shoes back then. In the case of Civilization 6, it was possible to choose between the DirectX 11 and DX12 versions anyway (the former can also be run on Windows 7, the latter cannot).

Goodbye and good riddance!
