How Did Darth Vader’s Helmet Come into Kylo Ren’s Possession? Here’s the Explanation!

MOVIE NEWS – Marvel Comics has finally revealed who took Darth Vader’s helmet from the funeral pyre after the events of Return of the Jedi…

The Star Wars saga is a universe full of little mysteries and details that have captured the imaginations of millions of fans over the years. The galaxy created by George Lucas is interwoven with a mysterious mythology, each new detail of which fans are curious about. This time, Marvel Comics is helping to answer a question that has been around for almost a decade: how does Kylo Ren get Darth Vader’s helmet?

Kylo Ren’s obsession with Darth Vader’s legacy

Since the introduction of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we’ve seen Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren as a character obsessed with his family legacy. This obsession manifests itself visually in the melted helmet of his grandfather, Darth Vader, the iconic villain of the saga. The depiction of the helmet is not only an aesthetic element, but also symbolizes Kylo’s inner struggle, as he fights between the light and darkness of the Force. His desire to follow in Vader’s footsteps, despite the atrocities committed by his grandfather, is one of the main driving forces throughout the new trilogy.

Darth Vader’s helmet, once a symbol of power and fear, now becomes an object of respect for Kylo. However, the details of how this “sacred” item came from Vader’s funeral pyre, seen at the end of Return of the Jedi, to Ren’s hands have been hanging in the air for nearly a decade.

A mystery that seems to be slowly being solved

Until now, the relationship between Kylo Ren and Vader’s helmet has been shrouded in mystery. Recently, however, the Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising comic began to provide answers. According to a ComicBook exclusive, a pivotal scene from the comic will be revealed in which Leia Organa, Kylo’s (Ben Solo) mother, retrieves her father’s mutilated helmet. This act suggests that the helmet is not just a simple trophy, but a family heirloom. This finding suggests that the history of the helmet is deeper than we initially thought. Especially considering Leia’s complicated relationship with her father, as detailed in Claudia Grey’s novel Bloodline. (Also, in the old expanded universe – now labelled “Legends” – Leia had a much harder time forgiving her father than Luke did. It is unlikely that Leia would take any “relic” from her father’s funeral pyre – especially his helmet, which was a symbol of oppression and terror for the galaxy…)

The first issue of Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising 1, which was released in the US on October 2nd of this year, was written by Alex Segura and illustrated by artists Leonard Kirk and Stefano Raffaele. The cover is by Phil Noto. The story centres on an unexpected threat to the New Republic following the events of Return of the Jedi.

A sinister family legacy

This small detail from the comic suggests that the object is not just a relic of the past. Still, it represents the struggle of the Skywalker family as a whole, including the story of Anakin Skywalker’s fall and redemption.

It’s interesting that fans are once again finding these little details in stories told outside of the movies and series that make the Star Wars mythology so rich. Whether you’re a fan or not, if you’re interested, you can access all the Star Wars movies and series on Disney+.
