It’s a bit funny to describe, but the new patch for Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Remaster has taken something from the mobile versions…
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received a new update that brings the first three 3D episodes of the franchise to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. No mention of the iOS and Android versions, as the consoles and PC have been lifted from there. It’s funny to even write that down, let alone the fact that they added the classic light mode to the mobile versions last year and carried it over to the other platforms.
Below you can also see some comparison images courtesy of Rockstar, so Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition might look a little nicer on whichever platform you choose to play one of the three games. The trilogy hasn’t been updated by Rockstar for a long time, so it’s fair to assume that the studio has no plans to do anything with the deck as they have more important projects (something called Grand Theft Auto VI, maybe you’ve heard of it…). The classic lighting mode is a significant improvement over what we’ve seen so far.
Of course, there are still bugs, which is no coincidence since Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released in a very bad state. At least compared to that, it’s a huge improvement, but it might still be better to run the original PC versions on the PC, as SilentPatch fixes a lot of bugs (and we recently wrote that the fan-made update package has been released as open source, and Rockstar’s ex-CTO has also praised it).
However, it’s really unusual for Rockstar to release an update for mobile first and then bring it to PC and consoles much later…
