Owlcat Games has announced the final major update for the game, finally giving it the form it’s been waiting for for three years.
If Baldur’s Gate 3 is the CRPG of the 2020s, then Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous might be its predecessor. It took the rules from the first edition of Pathfinder and turned them into a basic 80-hour adventure. With the DLCs included, it now offers over 100 hours, so levels 1-20 are pretty hefty in terms of content in the style of Baldur’s Gate 2. Memorable companions with their own quests and romance, lots of character builds, and the Mythic Path system for gaining otherworldly powers.
The new update improves one of the previously neglected Mythic Paths, the Golden Dragon, which originally had almost no story content and was inferior to the others. In fact, it was only available in the final act. This is what Owlcat Games is going to scrap. A new in-game model is coming, the effects will be nicer when transforming, and the “corrupted” players will have a unique look. Mythic spells (like summoning a bunch of helper dragons) will be a new buff, which is odd because it will still be a dragon summoning a dragon. There will also be expanded breath-weapon attacks (such as the ability to heal allies or add alternate damage types), and generally speaking, you’ll get more damage and earlier access to your chosen abilities.
Improved responsiveness, new story elements, and unique ending options exclusive to the Gold Dragon will also be included in the new update. Two new draconic religions will also be added during character creation, giving us more story content that will lead us toward the Mythic Path in the endgame. Owlcat also wants to show how much Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has come a long way since its release and how much it has expanded from the original.
Having recently received some DLC for the epilogue, the game is really taking shape.
