AMD’s Rise in Steam’s Survey: A Growing Threat to Intel’s Reign

Steam’s first 2025 survey reveals that AMD’s growth is no coincidence but an undeniable trend. The American tech giant continues to close in on Intel in the processor market.

Just weeks ago, Steam’s end-of-year survey highlighted AMD’s unstoppable growth, driven by two main factors: competitive pricing against NVIDIA GPUs and a decline in user trust in Intel processors. Now, the first Steam data of 2025 indicates that AMD is nearing a significant milestone, approaching a 58% market share.

AMD’s Position Strengthens

According to TechSpot, AMD reached a 38.7% share, closing in on the 40% threshold, while Intel’s share dropped slightly to 63.4%. This solidifies 2024 as a pivotal year for AMD in the processor arena, largely thanks to the success of its Ryzen chips. In particular, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D became so popular that it sold out rapidly in many regions.

NVIDIA Reigns Supreme in GPUs

When it comes to graphics cards, the RTX 3060 remains Steam’s most-used GPU. However, AMD improved its position, with the Radeon RX 6600 climbing to 27th among the most-used cards. Additionally, Windows 11 has solidified its spot as the top operating system with a 55% adoption rate, surpassing Windows 10’s 42.3%. For display resolutions, 56.1% of users stick with 1080p, while only 19.5% opt for 1440p.

RAM and VRAM Trends Worth Watching

The survey also reveals interesting insights about RAM and VRAM usage. Systems equipped with 16 GB of RAM remain the most common, though 32 GB configurations are gaining traction. The same trend applies to VRAM and storage: most users now boast over 1 TB of disk space. Meanwhile, English has grown further as the dominant language on Steam, accounting for 42.1%, well ahead of Chinese, which sits at 29.9%.
