Larian Studios’ game will soon have an official photo mode, so if you’ve been waiting to pose the way you want, you’ll soon be able to do so in one of 2023’s most popular games.
Larian is still preparing for the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3 stress test and patch 8 (previously announced to include cross-play support, photo mode, and 12 new subclasses). In the first Community Update 2025, Larian shared some more details about what the new patch has in store… and then showed off the potential of photo mode with some memes. Community Update 32 begins with a reminder of the stress test that players can still sign up for. The Belgian team is curious to see if we can handle cross-play, so that they can make any minor changes (if necessary) before Patch 8. The team also reminds us that although cross-play support includes Mac, people with Apple devices are not allowed to participate in the stress test.
The community update then goes on to say that patch eight fixes a number of bugs, and luckily for us the list isn’t so long that it takes minutes to scroll through, but it’s an entertaining list from Larian. For example, Barcos, the gnome, will no longer be covered in Mike Wazowski-style objects like cauldrons and bottles when we talk to him in Last Light. Also, Minthara is reminded that being knocked out does not mean you are dead, so she will appear more reliably in Moonrise towers.
Then Larian gave us some more details about the photo mode (when, where to use it). In general gameplay and combat encounters, we can take full advantage of Photo Mode: “Position [characters] however you like, change facial expressions to fit the scene, and play around with camera, lens, and scene settings.” But it will be much more limited during dialog and scenes: “You won’t be able to change the camera or position your party, but you will have access to a number of post-processing effects, such as color grading settings, frames, and stickers.”
The few images Larian shared are hilarious. We’ve only posted one here, check out the rest on Steam!
