Bohemia Interactive is bringing its open-world multiplayer survival sandbox game to another current-gen platform.

DayZ is a tough multiplayer sandbox game focused on survival. Thrown into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, we have one goal: survive. There are no missions or tasks. Our story is shaped by the unpredictable challenges created by the environment, the infected, and our interactions with other survivors. Every decision is ours. This is our survival story. There are no map markers, mini-maps, or navigation HUDs. From disease and immunity to hunger and body temperature, every piece of information is conveyed through a minimalist HUD that can be turned off, or more importantly, through our own observations. To survive, we have to physically search for every tool, food item, and piece of equipment. Our survival depends on how we read the environment, monitor our character’s condition, and loot strategically.

DayZ takes place in fictional countries designed with a commitment to authenticity. The base game includes two separate maps: legendary Chernarus and the mysterious forests of Livonia. Chernarus, a sprawling 230 km² post-Soviet landscape, remains the embodiment of the DayZ experience. This community favorite is a handcrafted terrain inspired by real locations in North Bohemia in the Czech Republic. Livonia offers a different kind of challenge. This 168 km² map, with its lush and dense forests, may seem more livable, but appearances can be deceptive. Beneath the surface lies a deep secret: one that poses a new survival test even for the most experienced players.

Everything is against us. Dangers lurk both in the open and in the shadows, from aggressive infected who attack on sight to wolves and bears roaming the forests. But that is not all. We must also deal with various diseases, learn to diagnose them by observing our condition, and find the necessary cures. Loot and equipment are scarce, but crafting functions can help make up for what is missing. Patch damaged clothes, light a fire to cook our food rations, craft improvised tools, and search quiet but deceptively dangerous villages and towns.

Build a base, farm the land, hunt, fish, and place traps to protect our territory. Or repair a car or truck and race through the wasteland with a friend, searching for high-tier loot at various dynamic events such as train wrecks, abandoned military convoys, PvP hotspots, landmarks, and much more. We can even find full NBC gear, allowing us to enter dangerous contaminated zones. The arsenal we can search through is enormous: more than 50 types of firearms are available, along with unique magazines and ammunition. It will not be easy. And no two lives will ever be the same.

DayZ Cool Edition will be released for Nintendo Switch 2 sometime this year. The game is currently available on Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
