Quite interesting rumors are leaking about Microsoft’s plans for what the Redmond-based company will do after the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S…
An interesting summary of what to expect in the next console generation (?) has appeared on WindowsCentral. Supposedly, the successor to the Xbox Series is almost finalized. We’re currently hearing that a successor to the Xbox Series is in the works for the next-generation Xbox. This could be the biggest generational leap of all, and is expected to be released in 2027. There are also plans for an Xbox handheld and several new controllers – the latter of which will be connected directly to the cloud, with the ability to switch between multiple devices.
Following on from previous rumors, we hear that next-gen consoles will be even closer to PCs than before, making it much easier for developers to port games from PCs and still maintain backwards compatibility. Since the PlayStation 4/Xbox One and PlayStation 5/Xbox Series also use x86 processors, the convergence with PCs has already started and could continue.
The Xbox handheld isn’t scheduled for release until 2027, but we’re hearing that we’ll get a glimpse of the handheld experience this year, as Xbox-branded hardware, codenamed Keenan, is in the works. This is being designed by Microsoft in conjunction with a PC manufacturer (Asus? MSI? Lenovo?) and will bring the Xbox style to the design. It will have a guide button and run Windows (Windows 12?). The platform will mainly focus on the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass.
Microsoft started its multiplatform strategy last February, so the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 will get some games that were previously only available on Xbox Series and PC. One of them will be Forza Horizon 5. But that’s exactly why many have questioned whether Microsoft will make hardware after this, and you can understand the doubters.
But this is not official yet!
