TECH NEWS – According to the network measurement results published by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority on szelessav.net on 11 March 2025, Yettel has the fastest 4G and 5G mobile internet network in Hungary, based on the national average download and upload speeds. The telecom company has invested nearly HUF 100 billion between 2020 and 2024 to develop its mobile network, will launch its 1,000th base station with high-speed 5G service within days, and plans to invest tens of billions of forints in further development in Hungary by 2028.
The mobile internet network measurement data published by the National Communications and Media Authority (NMHH) on 11 March 2025, available on szelessav.net, confirmed that Yettel Hungary provides the fastest 4G and 5G mobile internet to its customers based on the national aggregate average speed. According to the information available on the website, the authority’s measurement trucks are travelling the country and the recorded measurement results are subjected to rigorous checks. According to the authority’s continuously expanding, verified nationwide aggregated measurement results, Yettel’s mobile network is the fastest in Hungary with an average download speed of 148 Mbps on 5G devices and 75 Mbps on 4G devices. Yettel’s outdoor 4G coverage per population exceeds 99% nationwide, while the 5G network, which is being built in dynamic urban environments and busier tourist areas, has already reached 52%.
The strength of the renewed mobile internet has been confirmed by other sources
Yettel’s mobile network proved to be the fastest in the second half of 2024, based on more than 600,000 measurements collected in Hungary for the independent international organisation Speedtest, Ookla[3]. The Speedtest Awards for the fastest mobile network are determined using SpeedScore™, which includes the download and upload speeds of each operator to rank networks. The tests used to calculate the Speed Score are derived exclusively from “state-of-the-art devices” that are able to connect to the fastest, most widely available technology on the market. Yettel’s Speed Score™ for the period of the awards was 137.26, Magyar Telekom achieved a Speed Score™ of 60.51 and One Hungary a Speed Score™ of 40.4.
“Our future-proof mobile network and the services built on it, developed with billions of euros of investment, give Yettel capabilities that will take our future role significantly beyond the ‘mobile phone company’ role we have known so far. Our aim is to build on this strong infrastructure base and, in the age of digitalisation and AI, to become a technological, “telcotech” company, able to provide pioneering solutions to our customers’ needs in their everyday lives, whether in the residential or business segment. We are honoured that the Hungarian telecommunications regulator, NMHH, has measured our mobile network as the fastest in Hungary based on the national aggregated average speed measurement data published on szelessav.net, and perhaps also based on the best known international speed measurement company, Ookla Speedtest’s own measurement methodology. The results are the result of a significant financial investment and the hard work of serious and dedicated professionals. I’m proud of the Yettel team and the commitment we have to work together every day to achieve mutual success and maximize the Yettel customer experience.” – said Igor Prerovsky, CEO of Yettel Hungary.
At Yettel, 5G access is available to all customers without any extra charge or extra tariff plan, meaning that any customer with a 5G-enabled device in a 5G coverage area and an active data plan without a wound rate limit can take advantage of the 5G mobile network. More than 25% of the operator’s total network traffic is already 5G-enabled, with 86% of handsets sold in the residential segment in 2024 already 5G-capable.
“Our customers can already see that our resources invested in network development have been well spent, we have rebuilt our network almost to the last bolt, and within days we will launch our high frequency, high speed 5G service in the 1000th base station, achieving the fastest 4G and 5G mobile internet in the country, based on the national aggregate average speed measurement results we have just seen, this time also in the standalone 5G version on some handsets. We are not stopping there, we are planning tens of billions of forints of further upgrades until 2028, together with our network infrastructure partner CETIN Hungary.” – said György Koller, Deputy Chief Technical Officer of Yettel.
