Control: A Surprise Update Gives Access to the Kojima Mission for Everyone! [VIDEO]

Remedy Entertainment has made a previously limited mission available to everyone.

It’s taken over five years, but Remedy’s third-person shooter and interdimensional manipulation simulation Control has received an unexpected patch to finally give the Dr. Yoshimi Tokui Guided Imagery Experience a try. This is a side mission that is most notable for featuring Hideo Kojima as the doctor in the mission’s title. This will attract a lot of attention. But there’s a catch: until now, the mission was only available to those who pre-ordered the PlayStation 4 Digital Deluxe Edition!

Now there is no such exclusivity, so you can play the mission on any platform. In addition, the Astral Dive Suit, Tactical Response Gear and Urban Response Gear can be unlocked for all players, which were previously included as a pre-order bonus in Control. If you just want to see what the mission has in store for you, check out the video embedded below.

The new update also brings a number of graphical improvements. Native HDR support, a new Ultra Ray Tracing graphics preset (which gives the user more rays per pixel and greater temporal stability), support for ultra-wide monitors (up to 48:9 aspect ratio), improved texture streaming, and Remedy Entertainment has also tweaked DLSS. It can handle resolutions higher than 4K, Nvidia DLSS 3.7 can be used, DLAA and arbitrary resolutions can be used, and SDR has been updated to 10-bit to reduce visible color banding. Scene and credits sounds have been updated to eliminate inadvertent channel mixing, so there will be no mismatched sounds. Many bugs and crashing issues have also been fixed.

Many people on Reddit and the ResetEra forum have pointed out that Remedy essentially lifted content from a mod released in early 2023, the HDR Ultrawide DLSS RT Patch. It’s worth turning that off if you were running it.
