Kojima Promises an “Incredible and Strange” Film — and You Thought Death Stranding Was Confusing

MOVIE NEWS – If Death Stranding left you scratching your head, brace yourself — Hideo Kojima is bringing his signature weirdness to the big screen. The iconic Japanese creator says the film, produced in collaboration with A24, will be nothing short of “incredible and strange.”

There are many ways to describe Hideo Kojima, but one trait stands above the rest: his knack for crafting wildly unconventional narratives. His 2019 title, Death Stranding, baffled more than a few players with its abstract storytelling, and now that very same universe is heading to cinemas in live-action form.

That revelation may not shock Kojima’s longtime fans — especially those familiar with his legacy as the mastermind behind the Metal Gear franchise. Still, the creator used the latest broadcast of his newly launched Koji10 radio show in Japan to offer some insight into the upcoming Death Stranding film, which is being developed alongside the boutique studio A24. According to a translation shared by Genki on X, Kojima described the film as “incredible and strange.”

While remaining tight-lipped about plot and production details, Kojima did take a moment to praise the film’s director, Michael Sarnoski. “He has good taste and is a good person,” Kojima said, adding that he’s “happy he’s directing the film.” Sarnoski is best known for his work on A Quiet Place: Day 1, and also has personal experience with Kojima’s world — having appeared in Death Stranding and the original Metal Gear Solid. Though he once hoped to be involved in the creation of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Kojima ultimately blocked his participation. While no explanation was provided, Kojima did mention that Sarnoski “doesn’t seem like the typical Hollywood type.”

Kojima has remained silent on most aspects of this mysterious film project, including its release window. For now, fans will have to wait for official news from Kojima Productions and A24. One thing is certain: Kojima intends to surprise audiences far beyond the gaming world.

Death Stranding 2 Lets You Skip Boss Fights

Meanwhile, Kojima Productions is deep into development on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which is set to launch exclusively on PS5 on June 26. As the release date approaches, the team has been building hype with fresh gameplay details — one of the most surprising being a feature that lets players skip boss encounters. This change is designed for those who prefer soaking in Kojima’s story without being bogged down by combat.
