Predator Faces Off Against a Kaiju in First Action-Packed ‘Predator: Badlands’ Trailer

MOVIE NEWS – All the Ghost of Yōtei editions, what each one includes, and where you can get them along with the collector’s edition. We tell you everything about the three editions of Ghost of Yōtei, the latest installment from Sucker Punch, coming in the last quarter of 2025.

When Dan Trachtenberg‘s Prey dropped on Hulu back in 2022, it earned widespread praise for its unique historical setting, intense action, and grisly thrills. One recurring comment, however, sounded more like a compliment: the movie should’ve hit theaters instead of going straight to streaming. Now, Trachtenberg returns with Predator: Badlands, and its first trailer has arrived. The preview teases massive action and, this time, the cinematic release fans had hoped for all along.

‘Predator: Badlands’ Shifts the Setting to a Distant Future

This isn’t just a theatrical return — Badlands introduces an entirely new backdrop and premise. While Prey took place in the 1700s, this film is set on a remote planet in the future. Our lead appears to be a lone Predator on a mysterious mission. But we also meet Elle Fanning‘s character Thia, a human ally with a twist: she’s an android created by Weyland-Yutani, tying the story directly to the Alien universe.

While most Predator entries pit the aliens against either humans or their own kind — like in Robert Rodriguez’s Predators — this time, we see the titular hunter facing new alien creatures and even a towering kaiju in what’s clearly the trailer’s showstopper moment.

Finally, a Predator Movie Gets the Big-Screen Treatment It Deserves

Prey had a limited theatrical run (including at San Diego Comic-Con 2022), but its release was Hulu-only. Although it saw a Blu-ray release, its box office potential remained unrealized. Badlands looks to change that — its trailer confirms the film will screen in all premium formats, including IMAX.

Massive hunts, cinematic battles, and alien beasts teased in the trailer make this Predator movie feel right at home on the big screen. More than that, the narrative focuses on the Predator itself, offering a more nuanced, empathetic look at the creature. Trachtenberg isn’t rehashing Prey; he’s taking a bold new path forward.

It seems the Predator franchise is back in full force. Badlands heads to theaters, while an animated entry — Predator: Killer of Killers — lands on streaming June 6. Meanwhile, directors like Fede Álvarez continue teasing a future where the Predator and Alien sagas converge again — a welcome sign for sci-fi horror fans everywhere.
