James Bond’s New Game, 007 First Light, Is Flying, but Nintendo Switch 2 Owners Are Still Waiting – For How Long?

007 First Light sold 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours, but the Nintendo Switch 2 version still has no firm release date.

James Bond’s new game is already off to a flying start, but Nintendo Switch 2 owners are still left waiting. Developed and published by IO Interactive, 007 First Light sold 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours, while the version planned for Nintendo’s hybrid console still has no new, concrete release date.

That makes the situation especially awkward, since the Nintendo Switch 2 version was delayed back in April, and the only thing currently clear is that the game has already launched elsewhere and appears to be doing very well. IO Interactive also thanked players for the launch in a dedicated message: “Thank you for showing up to the launch of 007 First Light, for your overwhelming enthusiasm and for sharing your experience with the game.”

From a Nintendo Switch 2 perspective, this is a rather uncomfortable moment: James Bond has already made his move elsewhere, while Nintendo’s new machine still has nothing to show for it. Several outlets have also praised the game strongly, with some even calling it one of the best James Bond games ever, which makes the absence of the Switch 2 version even more noticeable.

The key question now is when IO Interactive will finally clarify the Nintendo Switch 2 release and what shape the port will be in when it arrives. A later launch is not automatically a disaster if it results in a more stable and better-optimized version, but for now, Nintendo’s audience is missing out on the momentum of the launch.

James Bond has clearly hit the ground running elsewhere, but on Nintendo Switch 2, we are still standing in front of the garage door. With 1.5 million copies sold on day one, the demand is obviously there. Now the real question is when the version for Nintendo’s new console will finally get a proper date – rather than another polite fog bank.
