The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered: PC Users Are Partially Unlucky!

Typical Bethesda (even if Virtuos developed this specific version of Oblivion): they released a hotfix that will require another one to fix the issues…

If you’re playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store, it’s probably because you’re accessing the game through PC Game Pass. Here we get a hotfix, but it’s better that others don’t (and won’t, so anyone who might be playing on Steam shouldn’t worry about running into the same bug…).

This update is 2 GB in size, and supposedly due to cross-play. If you loaded your PC save on Xbox Series, it would also carry over your resolution settings, so the upgraded Cyrodiil on your TV could look pretty weird. The hotfix, however, removed the upscaling options entirely, so DLSS and frame generation disappeared from the settings for those who downloaded the game ported to Unreal Engine 5 via Windows or the Xbox Store, which surfaced this week after a long rumour.

For many, these graphics settings could be called quite important. While it’s easy to achieve a correct frame rate in the sneak-peek tutorial, this can change in moments when you step out into the open world of Oblivion, so 30 FPS can be difficult even with ray tracing turned off. Even on a more powerful config, frame generation has become almost essential for the majority of the audience. So it’s no wonder Bethesda’s community manager responded on Reddit:

“First, thank you all for your super quick feedback on today’s hotfix. The hotfix we pushed live today was for a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting game play, but we’ve seen it’s affected some Microsoft Store players’ UI settings for graphical settings. Specifically, related to upscaling and anti-aliasing. Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix, are still enabled and function normally. You’ll just be temporarily unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can,” Bethesda’s CM wrote.

Yes, but users report that this is not the case. Many of the responses say that DLSS, FSR and frame generation are turned off. Some also report that their settings have been lowered from Ultra to High without warning. A hotfix for this hotfix is expected to arrive early next week…
