Google Still Has a Huge Lead Among Search Engines!

TECH NEWS – AI chatbots have not made much of a difference in the results of search engine competition.

According to a report by SEO analytics firm OneLittleWeb, AI chatbots have barely dented search engine traffic. Between April 2024 and March 2025, the world’s top 10 search engines received 155 billion visits, while the top 10 AI chatbots received only 4 billion monthly web visits. Overall, search engines attracted 34 times more traffic than chatbots, and the data suggests they are growing at a faster pace.

Google remains the undisputed king of web traffic. In March 2025 alone, the top ten search engines recorded 1.8 trillion visits, of which Google alone accounted for 1.6 trillion. Microsoft’s Bing ranked second with 60 billion visits. Year-over-year, Google’s traffic dipped 1.4%, while Bing saw an increase of 27.7%.

All AI chatbots combined, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, attracted a total of 55.2 billion visits in March. ChatGPT led the list with 47.7 billion, making up 87% of the total. DeepSeek from China and Google’s Gemini tied for second place with 1.7 billion visits each. DeepSeek showed the most dramatic growth, with its traffic jumping by 113,007%, while ChatGPT and Gemini rose by 67% and 41%, respectively. AI bots represented only 3% of all search engine traffic.

Despite the small share, AI chatbot visits grew 80.9% year-over-year in March, while search engines fell by only 0.51%. In March, average monthly and daily visits for search engines stood at 155 billion and 5.5 billion, respectively, compared to 4.6 billion and 233 million for chatbots.

Not all search engines performed well: Yahoo saw the biggest drop with a 22.5% year-over-year decline in March, falling to 41.3 billion visits. AI chatbots, however, saw steady growth each month since May 2024, climbing from 3.1 billion to 7 billion in March. In contrast, between April 2023 and March 2024, chatbot visits dipped to 2.1 billion in August and only rose slightly to 2.9 billion by March 2024.

Chatbot visit growth accelerated between September 2024 and February 2025, with monthly increases of 17% and 22%, respectively. Meanwhile, search engine visits fell to 148 billion in February 2024 before rising sharply to 161 billion in February this year. Since November 2024, when traffic hit a low of 155 billion, search engines have shown a consistent upward trend.
