Three years after the announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV, we finally get to see some screenshots — but it comes at the cost of another project revealed at the same time.
Square Enix has confirmed the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action RPG originally announced in April 2022 for iOS and Android. Initially scheduled for 2024 and preceded by a prototype test in January 2023, the game was later postponed indefinitely in November. It will now officially never be released.

“We have made the difficult decision to cancel the development of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. We wish to convey our heartfelt apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to its release. Although we worked hard to develop and adjust the game in the hope that many players would enjoy it, we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a satisfactory service over the long term, which led us to cancel development. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported and assisted us with the multiple closed beta tests. We are truly sorry to have to make this announcement. The Kingdom Hearts series will continue. We are hard at work on Kingdom Hearts IV and hope you’ll continue to support the series as you await further updates,” wrote Square Enix.

The Japanese company has also shared new images of Kingdom Hearts IV. First announced in April 2022, the title went radio silent—until now. “We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts IV and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations! We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support,” added Square Enix.
The release date and platforms for Kingdom Hearts IV remain unconfirmed. Could this be a next-gen exclusive?
