Spider-Man: Brand New Day Villains Reportedly Leak in Early MCU Preview

MOVIE NEWS – Despite recent casting developments, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains shrouded in mystery. The MCU sequel, starring Tom Holland and Sadie Sink and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi), is set to launch a new chapter for the web-slinger. That said, reports indicate that the film will feature at least three villains, including one returning face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Chris Higashi, an attendee at the Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation, revealed that Disney showcased fresh visual material from its upcoming MCU projects, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Reportedly, the film will introduce Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tombstone as its featured villains. Michael Mando, of Better Call Saul fame, originally portrayed Scorpion in Spider-Man: Homecoming but has been missing from the franchise until now. Check out the social media post below:

At first glance, it appears Brand New Day is opting for more street-level antagonists, a noticeable shift from the franchise’s previous, larger-than-life entries. That said, this group of villains isn’t particularly thrilling – no offense, Boomerang – and it’s hard to imagine them as the film’s main threat. Perhaps they’ll only appear in an opening sequence, much like how Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man fought Rhino in the beginning of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Scorpion’s return has been a long time coming in the MCU, and while his inclusion is welcome, there’s a strong sense that the film has something bigger in store.

As Brand New Day moves closer to production, online rumors about the film’s villain(s) have begun to surface. In addition to Scorpion, Tombstone, and Boomerang, the MCU sequel is reportedly searching for a female lead aged 30 to 50 to portray the film’s primary antagonist. The identity of the character remains unknown, but speculation suggests that Silver Sable may be in contention. Sarah Snook, known from Succession, is rumored to be considered for the role. Meanwhile, Liza Colón-Zayas from The Bear has officially joined the cast, though her character remains undisclosed.

Many fans speculate that the film might also introduce a beloved character from the PlayStation games. Martin Li, aka Mister Negative, is frequently mentioned as a top contender for the main villain. While nothing has been confirmed by Sony or Marvel Studios, rumors persist that his live-action debut is imminent. In Spider-Man PS4, Martin Li initially serves as a mentor figure to Peter Parker, only to be revealed as a powerful crime lord with supernatural abilities. Notably, both Scorpion and Tombstone play key roles in the game, especially the latter.
