Unlike last time with Resident Evil (8), Capcom will not add a second camera angle to the game in an update. Village.
Resident Evil: Requiem was one of the biggest announcements at Summer Game Fest. The game was revealed to take the series back to Raccoon City after its destruction (remember, the city was destroyed by a nuke at the end of Resident Evil 3). Requiem stars Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of a character from 2003’s Resident Evil Outbreak, as its new protagonist.
Grace’s journey to Raccoon City isn’t the only connection between the old and new in Requiem. For the first time in the franchise’s history, players can switch between first- and third-person perspectives at any time. Capcom showcased this feature during a closed-door demo at Summer Game Fest. It was surprising indeed, as Japanese games had never before had two separate camera views available at the same time.
However, the transition is not so graceful because you have to stop the game to switch. Capcom probably doesn’t intend for players to constantly switch camera angles. Similar to Resident Evil Village, which received a third-person mode after its release, this option caters to those who can’t stomach the idea of a Resident Evil game without a character onscreen. This switching option also symbolizes the divide in the franchise’s fan base and is something Capcom wants to address. Capcom switched to an internal view in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil: Village and touted it as a feature that differentiates these games from previous ones. However, the unbroken popularity of the Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake means that Capcom can’t ignore the old over-the-shoulder camera.
However, it’s difficult to imagine Resident Evil: Requiem living up to the claustrophobic horror of Resident Evil 7 while being designed around two very different perspectives. Requiem’s support for two cameras means its levels will be designed for an external view. This necessitates wide corridors and minimal clutter to prevent the floating camera from getting jammed. The game launches on February 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
