Obsidian Entertainment doesn’t plan on adding many minor updates to Grounded 2 while it’s in early access.
With Grounded 2 launching next month, Obsidian is revamping its early access approach. Unlike the monthly micro-updates of the first game, the studio is now aiming for more substantial updates every four to five months. Chris Parker, the game’s director, explained this shift in an interview with GamesRadar:
“When we started with Grounded 1 in early access, we were trying to do almost monthly updates. That was a hassle, and it didn’t work. It didn’t make the community or the team happy. So, we are looking at longer, meatier updates in the four-to-five-month range. It’ll more directly mimic Obsidian’s later strategy in the first Grounded’s early access development cycle, where the team released a significant portion of the yard with new creatures, armor, equipment, and mechanics.”
Parker added that Grounded 2 will include more story content to follow. The team wants to retain the fun survival-building vibe from the first game, while also layering in some narrative structure. Considering Obsidian’s RPG pedigree, the studio should be more than capable of delivering on that front.
Grounded 2 was announced during the Xbox Game Showcase by Xbox Game Studios and Obsidian Entertainment. The early access version — called Game Preview — launches July 29 on Xbox Series and PC (via Microsoft Store). It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and can be purchased for $30 during early access.
