Creative Assembly also worked to shrink the game size and improve load times — which is always welcome.
Total War: Warhammer 3 continues its steady rebalancing journey. After a major overhaul of the Kislev faction in March, the new patch targets another key system: magical items. Around 600 ancillaries (common to rare) have had their effects and rarities adjusted based on a new balancing approach.
The developers implemented a “cost/budget matrix” using a hidden “uniqueness” stat to make rarity tiers clearer and more consistent. The system streamlines effects, reduces UI clutter, and now tailors item drops to the player’s current inventory and playstyle.
New units have also been introduced: Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers for Chaos Dwarfs and Blood Knights for Vampire Counts. Game size has been reduced by 27%, with load times improving between 5% and 42%.
Two new AI settings are available: AI Strength & Threat Assessment (default: on) allows the AI to dynamically adapt difficulty, and Minor Faction Potential (default: off) enables better strategic decisions by smaller factions.
The Tides of Torment DLC is slated to release later this summer.
