Assassin’s Creed: Has Ubisoft Already Chosen What the Second Remake Will Be?

The French publisher reportedly already knows which entry it wants to tackle next after remaking the famous 2013 fourth installment.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has long been one of the worst-kept secrets of the current console generation thanks to the many leaks of recent years, but there may already be a second remake in the franchise lined up to inherit that title in the future. After reports suggested Ubisoft planned to revisit more entries in the series alongside the hugely popular fourth game, well-known YouTuber and usually reliable franchise leaker j0nathan claimed that the original Assassin’s Creed is getting a full remake.

Unfortunately, the leaker did not share much more beyond saying he has known about it since 2023. Even that is enough, though, to make fans of the series perk up. Assassin’s Creed Mirage did steer the franchise back toward its roots and delivered an experience closer to the earliest games before the series turned fully into an open-world action RPG, but the original still has that special, slightly rough atmosphere the later entries never quite recreated. So it will be interesting to see how Ubisoft updates that somewhat restrictive formula and whether it can preserve the unique traits that made the first Assassin’s Creed feel so different from the rest of the series.

Fortunately, there is a good chance we will not have to wait too long to see this version in action. The franchise turns 20 in 2027, and releasing the remake next year would be a perfect way to celebrate a series that has, for better or worse, influenced the entire industry ever since it first appeared.

Hopefully, Assassin’s Creed can properly merge the classic experience with modern ideas, because that is what would make this remake truly work.
