When the Heat Keeps You Indoors, Here Is What CANAL+ Has in July

MOVIE NEWS – Summer heat often makes staying in with a film or series more appealing than looking for another outdoor plan. CANAL+’s July selection includes sports coverage, returning series, action films, crime stories and several notable streaming premieres.

The latest CANAL+ app update is not only about the interface, as it also adds a number of practical features. Multi-Live allows users to follow up to four live television channels at once, a separate children’s profile can be created, and the range of replayable programmes has expanded. The CANAL+ NOW EXTRA package now includes more than 40 channels available for catch-up viewing, while the CANAL+ NOW package offers more than 25, which can be useful for anyone who misses a programme because of travel or summer plans.

World Cup Viewing Wherever You Are

One of the summer’s biggest sporting events is the FIFA World Cup, with matches available through M4 Sport broadcasts in the app. That means games can be followed not only at home, but also while travelling or during a holiday. A dedicated World Cup guide also brings together fixtures, results and statistics in one place.

Football is also the subject of the documentary series Big Pete, which follows Petr Čech’s career and personal story. The series looks beyond sporting results to examine the decisions and personal circumstances that shaped the legendary goalkeeper’s path.

New Seasons and Familiar Returns

Among the returning series, one of the more notable titles is the second season of A brigád, which continues to develop the tensions between its characters and its crime-driven storylines. The already mentioned Big Pete is also returning with new episodes, with Petr Čech speaking to a different well-known football figure in each instalment. Guests include John Terry, Robert Pires, Emile Heskey and other former players.

Speed and Adrenaline

For viewers looking for something faster, Gran Turismo and Need for Speed both explore the world of racing, despite being made nearly a decade apart. Each film focuses on an environment where every second matters, which could make them suitable viewing ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The series Aki utoljára fékez approaches motorsport from another angle, dealing with rivalry, technical failures and personal sacrifices.

The line-up also includes the futuristic action film Dredd and Escape from Pretoria, starring Daniel Radcliffe. The latter is a book adaptation based on real events, following two political prisoners as they attempt to escape from Pretoria’s notorious prison in South Africa.

Mark Wahlberg appears in two very different stories. In Őrizetben, he faces morally difficult situations in a tense crime thriller, while Arthur the King, based on a true story, casts him as the leader of a determined expedition. Set in the Dominican Republic’s jungles, the adventure follows a team during an extreme race stretching hundreds of kilometres, when a stray dog joins them and forms an unexpected bond with the group.

Johnny Depp’s films in the selection include the drama Richard Says Goodbye, the journalist-centred The Rum Diary, the science-fiction thriller Transcendence, and the historical drama Waiting for the Barbarians. Together, the four films cover very different genres and moods, from more serious drama to science fiction and literary adaptations.

Survival and Extreme Situations

Greenland: Az új menedék arrives at the beginning of the month, continuing a post-disaster survival story starring Morena Baccarin and Gerard Butler. Later in July, Gyilkos a tónál will debut, while Rejtély a tónál is already available in the app. Both crime stories build their tension gradually, with each small detail capable of shifting the investigation in another direction.

The fantasy and adventure side of the selection is represented by The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and A mars örökösei. The two films take place in entirely different worlds, but both treat survival as an emotional and moral question as much as a physical one.

During the second week of July, fans of historical and crime series can continue with Paris Police 1900 and Paris Police 1905. Both seasons also build toward the later Paris Police 1910, creating a European crime world that unfolds across several periods.

CANAL+ Action

CANAL+ Action continues to focus on action films, series and adventure titles throughout July. The schedule includes recognisable names such as Samaritan, Creed III and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, moving between modern action cinema and more nostalgic blockbuster entertainment.

For many people, summer is not only about travelling and outdoor activities, but also about slower evenings at home. A longer series, a carefully paced crime story or an accessible action film can work just as well as a way to switch off for a while.
