Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has sold more than three million copies in just one week, giving Ubisoft another major success. The publisher is already working on further updates, new features, and potential additional content for the remake.
Some games are released, generate discussion for a few days, and then quickly give way to other titles. The opposite has happened with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, as the remake is enjoying phenomenal sales and has already moved several million copies. Ubisoft does not intend to rest on its laurels, however, and is already planning further content and updates for the new version starring Edward Kenway. Players enjoying this modernized edition of Black Flag have several reasons to be optimistic.
A few days ago, Ubisoft confirmed on its official website that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced had surpassed three million copies sold during its first week on the market. The game launched on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and had already sold two million units on its first day. Richard Knight, the remake’s director, also confirmed in an interview with YouTuber JorRaptor that the studio has further plans for the game.
Ubisoft’s Plans for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
Knight confirmed that the studio is actively working on a New Game Plus mode. “Yes, we’re working on it right now. It’s one of the top things on the list,” he said, adding that the fact Assassin’s Creed Shadows already has its own version of New Game Plus makes development easier, as it is a “low-risk” feature for the team. The director did not provide a specific release date, but made it clear that the mode is one of the studio’s main post-launch priorities.
The Black Flag remake, which has become the best-selling launch in the series on Steam, has not escaped criticism from the community. Many players have requested an option to hide Edward’s blowgun, which appears awkwardly positioned on the protagonist’s body. Knight acknowledged that one of the team’s veteran programmers is already working on an option to conceal it, and the feature is expected to arrive within a few weeks.
Beyond the technical adjustments, Knight’s comments about possible DLC attracted the most attention. The game director acknowledged that “some members of the team have ideas for DLC,” but for now he ruled out a remake of Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry, the original game’s expansion starring Adewale. “I can’t say anything about Freedom Cry. We have our hands full with this game right now, and Freedom Cry is no small thing,” he explained. The team is currently focused on supporting Black Flag Resynced with updates, new features, and community-requested options, but the possibility of a future Freedom Cry remake or another expansion has not been ruled out entirely.
