In fact, the Chinese version will also shut down soon. However, since Square Enix did not develop the project, this outcome was to be expected.
LightSpeed Studios, a Tencent team, announced that the iOS and Android version of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will shut down on September 30. The international version of the MMORPG, which is currently available in China, has been canceled. This means the game was available for just over a year, as it was released in China on June 19, 2024. Here’s LightSpeed’s statement:
“Dear adventurers, thank you for your continued support of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile (Chinese Edition). On the launch day of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile (Chinese Edition) in mainland China, we said, ‘Resonate with the Light, and blaze as one,’ and promised that the adventure had just begun. Over this time, it is you who have truly brought ‘Mobile Eorzea’ to life. Every suggestion you shared about gameplay, experiences, and features helped us build the game world. Seasoned Warriors of Light stepped up as mentors, guiding newcomers through the confusion of their first steps in Eorzea. Countless mornings and nights spent fighting alongside one another have come together to form the vast, warm community we once envisioned. Resonating with all of you adventurers on this journey has been the greatest fortune of the world we built together and a memory we will always treasure.
Today, however, we must share an important announcement with you. Due to adjustments in business operations and changes in the market environment, Tencent and Square Enix have decided, through amicable negotiations, to terminate the licensing agreement for Final Fantasy XIV Mobile (Chinese Edition). We regret to inform you that we will officially cease operations of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile (Chinese Edition) in mainland China at 11:00 (UTC+8) on September 30, 2026. We sincerely apologize to everyone who has journeyed with us until now for ending this service without being able to fully live up to your expectations. At the same time, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have supported us along the way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We also offer our sincere apologies to those who have been looking forward to the global version for being unable to meet your expectations.
In-game top-ups and new user registrations are now suspended. Starting at 3:00 a.m. UTC on September 30, we will officially cease game operations. The game servers and official website will shut down, and players will no longer be able to log in. From 3 a.m. UTC on October 15, the forums and dedicated customer support will close. In accordance with the Personal Information Protection Law, we will delete the account data, character information, and other related data of players who registered and played in the Chinese mainland after the game servers are shut down, except as otherwise required by laws and regulations or otherwise agreed upon in the agreement between Tencent and users. To accompany you on this final journey in Final Fantasy XIV Mobile (Chinese Edition), our team will do our best. Thank you again for your support,” LightSpeed wrote.
That’s all for Final Fantasy XIV Mobile Edition.
