Star Fox: Is Misinformation Already Spreading About a New Game That Has Not Even Been Announced Yet?

Nintendo appears willing to give the Star Fox IP another shot after the Wii U era, and that series originally began on the SNES under the hands of Argonaut Software.

A lot of misinformation is now circulating around a supposedly upcoming Star Fox game first mentioned by leaker NateTheHate. At this point, this is all we actually know with any confidence: according to the insider, the title will have a classic feel, include online multiplayer, and look visually impressive, since the graphics were described as striking. One editor at VGC had also previously said the game would be very funny, which seems plausible given that the franchise has never been relentlessly serious at all times.

Oscar Lemaire claims Nintendo has placed at least some emphasis on multiplayer in the new Star Fox. Lemaire only speculated that the title might be some kind of spin-off because of that multiplayer component, but he did not directly say it was one. He also said nothing about a second, fully mainline Star Fox game arriving next year. The only mention of a second Star Fox project came from Malo932, the anonymous YouTube commenter who had confirmed everything in NateTheHate’s podcast episode before it was published.

So there is no direct statement saying the game is a spin-off, nor that it is some other low-budget, multiplayer-only release like the Star Fox 99 idea many people keep bringing up. The 99 concept itself is worth clarifying: Nintendo Switch Online has already done similar things with Tetris and Super Mario Bros., letting multiple players compete for the best result in the shortest time. In the case of Star Fox, that competitive format is harder to picture, but it still cannot be ruled out completely.

The last entirely new Star Fox entry came in 2016. Star Fox Zero, a 3D rail shooter, launched on April 21, 2016. It was released for Wii U, functioned as a reimagining of Star Fox 64, and arrived alongside the tower defense companion title Star Fox Guard.
