Life After Google Stadia: Typhoon Studios Returns Under A New Name!

Google Stadia‘s internal developing/publishing company, Stadia Games & Entertainment (SG&E for short, formerly led by Jade Raymond, who previously worked at Ubisoft and is now at Haven Studios, close to Sony), had a SINGLE acquisition throughout its lifetime. Typhoon Studios survived the fall of SG&E.

The devs of Journey to the Savage Planet return under a new name, Raccoon Logic, which is based in Montreal. It already received a large initial investment from the Chinese tech giant Tencent, regaining the IP rights to Journey to the Savage Planet. The studio is currently working on an unannounced debut project (a sequel?)

Raccoon Logic’s founders include:

Alex Hutchinson (creative director and co-founder; he previously was a creative director at Ubisoft Montreal, directing Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed III; other past work: Spore, The Sims 2, and Army of Two: The 40th Day at Electronic Arts);

Reid Schneider (studio head, executive producer, and co-founder; he previously was a co-founder of Warner Bros Montreal, executive producer on Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Knight; other past work: Army of Two, Army of Two: The 40th Day, Battlefield Vietnam at Electronic Arts; the original Splinter Cell at Ubisoft);

Yannick Simard (chief technical officer and co-founder; he formerly held different lead programmer and technical lead roles on Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2 at Ubisoft. Other past work: Army of Two, Army of Two: The 40th Day, and Spore Hero at Electronic Arts; lead engine programmer at Eidos);

Erick Bilodeau (art director and co-founder; he previously worked at WB Games Montreal as a lead technical artist on Batman: Arkham Origins; other past work: Shaun White Skateboarding, Far Cry 2, and Mighty Quest for Epic Loot);

Marc-Antoine Lussier (technical design director and co-founder; he previously worked at Ubisoft Montreal as technical design director on the original Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed III, and Assassin’s Creed Unity; other past work: Syberia, Myst 4).

“We’re excited to be back in the indie space, making the games we truly believe in with an amazing new team. The early investment from Tencent is a huge boost, meaning we can do significant work on our own before we start talking to publishers. We love systemic games, games with a sense of humour and a big heart, and games with strong flavours that get reactions from players. We’re going to keep pushing on those ideas, and we’ll have something to show soon!” Hutchinson said in a press release.

“We’re super excited to continue the work we started at Typhoon Studios and build upon the Journey to the Savage Planet franchise in the future. We would like to thank our partners at Tencent, Google Stadia, and 505 for their support. We’re fortunate to have put together an amazing team, many of whom helped build Savage Planet, and we’ve added some great new talent as well,” Schneider added.

Best of luck to them.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
