MOVIE NEWS – Vincent D’Onofrio has named the superheroes on his wish list for Kingpin to face in the MCU: his vision, of course, includes another go at Daredevil.
Even though Daredevil didn’t survive to season four, another battle between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, is not out of the question. Events have recently occurred in the Marvel Universe that has officially tied the MCU to Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. However, before you read any further, be warned that IMPORTANT SPOILERS regarding the Hawkeye series and Spider-Man: No Way Home are ahead!
In the season finale episode of Hawkeye, Vincent D’Onofrio is back as Kingpin, and according to the actor, it’s “the same guy” he played in Daredevil. Meanwhile, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock recently made a surprise cameo in the MCU as Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given their history, another showdown between Kingpin and Daredevil is more than likely if the characters ever meet on screen again. It remains to be seen if they will just appear in separate projects or if their feud will resurface one day.
D’Onofrio has since spoken about his return to the role of Kingpin in a new interview with TVLine. The actor was also asked about a possible collaboration with Charlie Cox in the MCU, and for his part, D’Onofrio admitted he hadn’t given the idea much thought. Nevertheless, once he was asked the question, the actor also said that he would “love” to see it, and we’re sure fans would love to see it too. He never says never because his recent return in Hawkeye made him realise that anything is possible.
“I would love for that.”
“It hasn’t crossed my mind a lot; I’ve kind of walked away from Daredevil. For a bit, I thought it might come back, but it’s been years now. I gave up on that [possibility]. But I didn’t know that I was going to get a call from [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin [Feige], either, so everything’s up for grabs. I had no idea that I would do Hawkeye.”
In any case, D’Onofrio is clearly ready to do more as Kingpin in the MCU if there’s room for the main villain in other stories. He has a short wish list of other characters he’d like to see Kingpin meet based on his comic book story. Daredevil is on this list, but the Punisher and Spider-Man are also on the list. In addition to potential feuds with superheroes, D’Onofrio would also like to see Kingpin’s relationship with Maya explored more in the upcoming Echo spinoff series.
“In the comic runs, it was Punisher, Spider-Man and Daredevil. That would be cool. [Exploring] the relationship with Maya would be cool. It was actually one of the things when I researched Daredevil that I remembered as one of my favourite runs when he took her under his wing.”
Tom Holland also said he would love to see his Spider-Man opposite Kingpin in another film. Preliminary plans suggest that Holland would return in another Spider-Man movie trilogy, so with Holland and D’Onofrio both interested in a Kingpin clash, it could even be a possibility…
