Prey: Predator Prequel Has Got R-rating, So Get Ready For Carnage!

MOVIE NEWS – The Prey premise is a clever one: a Comanche warrior will have to take on the Predator.

Good news for Predator fans: the upcoming prequel, Prey – of which we recently posted a detailed preview – has now officially received an R rating from the MPA! Prey has been awarded the hoped-for ‘limited’ rating thanks to its ‘bloody violence’, meaning the iconic alien hunter will once again be coming to Hulu this August with its ruthless tactics and spine-tingling brutality.

The R-rating puts Prey alongside films such as the first Predator, Predator 2, Predators and The Predator, distancing the prequel film from the notoriously weak Alien versus Predator franchise. Now that the Predator franchise has been brought under the Disney umbrella, many were worried that Prey would dilute the bloody violence that was one of the series’ charms. However, it seems that this will be far from the case.

Prey director Dan Trachtenberg recently assured fans of the Mandible Warrior that the Disney reign would influence the violent action in the prequel film.

“The Disney thing did not affect the movie at all in terms of its content,” Trachtenberg revealed recently.

“That’s why I’m excited for this trailer to come out.”

He went on to praise Disney for allowing him to make the Predator prequel film he wanted and that fans want to see.

“And for people who were worried that was this gonna be PG-13, or was it gonna be ‘Disney-Made-Predator.’ It was a 20th Century movie throughout the entire experience. And then Disney has been awesome in receiving the reins of it and now delivering it out into the world, but there was never any mandate from them.”

“I was terrified of some of the wording we had in the script and when they read it, I was like, ‘Oh no, are they gonna freak out over the descriptions of gore and stuff?’ But, no. It is a brutal, intense, very R-rated movie. And I’m excited for that to be dispelled, that Disney’s gonna do ‘Disney Things.'”

The Predator will take on a Comanche warrior in 1719.

Prey is a brand new action-thriller from 20th Century Studios, the next instalment in the long-running Predator franchise. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (The Boys, 10 Cloverfield Lane), Prey is set in the Comanche clan 300 years ago and tells the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. Raised in the shadow of the legendary hunters of the Great Plains, when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks and eventually confronts turns out to be an otherworldly alien predator with a technologically advanced arsenal, resulting in a brutal and terrifying showdown between the two opponents.

Prey, written by Patrick Aison (Jack Ryan, Treadstone), stars Amber Midthunder (Legion) as Naru, a young Comanche warrior fighting to defend her tribe against the Predator. Alongside Midthunder are Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, Julian Black Antelope and Dane DiLiegro as the Predator.

Prey is scheduled for release on August 5, 2022, as a 20th Century Studios original Hulu film.
