Xbox Game Pass: Arrivals, Departures – Everything You Need To Know About January-February Games!

Xbox Game Pass is about to lose four more games, with more departures expected in February – but never before have so many people signed up for the service.

As it regularly does, Microsoft will be removing more titles from Xbox Game Pass shortly. At least four titles will leave the program on January 31.

The four games leaving on January 31 are Telling Lies, Donut County, Worms W.M.D. and Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master. Microsoft has not yet published an official post on the latest removals from Game Pass. However, app data is generally the most reliable.

As usual, Game Pass subscribers can save 20% on titles if they purchase them directly, so this is good news if fans want to keep playing after the cancellation.

This is the second wave of Game Pass removals in January. On January 15, six titles were removed from the library, including We Happy Few, The Anacrusis, Windjammers 2, Pupperazzi, Nobody Saves the World and Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.

Game Pass has added three games so far in January 2023, including Monster Hunter Rise, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 3 Portable. As of January 24, Game Pass has added three games and removed ten so far this month, reducing the library by a net of -7 games.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers peaked in the previous quarter

Gaming wasn’t a big winner for Microsoft in the second quarter of 2023, but it looks like the Game Pass program covered any losses. This branch of Microsoft’s games business seems to have done pretty well, but until the conference call for Q2 2023, we weren’t aware of how much of a role it played. There, CEO Satya Nadella shared that Game Pass hit a subscriber record in the previous quarter.

Nadella shared this brief comment during Microsoft’s Q2 2023 earnings conference call on January 24, 2023.

Microsoft saw some slippage in its gaming business in the second quarter, including hardware sales, which were down 13 per cent from the previous quarter. However, even in that report, the success of the Game Pass program and new subscribers helped offset the losses. Then, during the call, Nadella briefly revealed that Game Pass subscribers would peak in Microsoft’s second quarter of 2023.
