MOVIE NEWS – Keanu Reeves will soon lend his voice to the latest film in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and join the star cast of the December release.
It looks like Keanu Reeves has confirmed that he will be voicing the iconic Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3! As revealed on The John Campea Show and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the ever-popular actor will join the franchise’s returning stars. Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular blue speeder, among others. Reeves’ involvement in the new film is just another step forward for the franchise. The latter expanded its original cast with the roles of Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Knuckles and Tails, respectively, in the second part.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is about to delve into the world of Sega’s mascot, and as promised at the end of the previous film, Shadow the Hedgehog will also play a key role.
Fans of the franchise were more than happy with Knuckles’ appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. So much so that the character is getting his own spin-off TV show! Reeves’ appearance as Shadow only adds to the hype surrounding the arrival of yet another gaming icon. Previously, however, it seemed that Darth Vader himself – that is, Hayden Christensen – would play the legendary game character.
The success of the Sonic films is due to the fact that the classic game characters were faithfully adapted to the hybrid environment of the real world and the game world. The original discourse about Sonic’s design before the release of the first film – the unforgettable “ugly Sonic” buck – proved to be enough to prevent the designs of later characters from trying to deviate in any way from the game versions.
This seems to be the case with Shadow as well. The character made a very brief appearance in Sonic 2’s post-credits scene. With Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik becoming increasingly realistic, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 promises to be the biggest and best Sonic movie yet.
