Nintendo Of America Co-Founder Passed Away [VIDEO]

Alan Stone played a pivotal role in Nintendo‘s expansion.

Alan Stone, or Al, as a lot of people called him, co-founded Nintendo of America in 1981. Back then, the NES didn’t exist yet (nor did the Famicom, which launched in Japan in 1983!) – instead, the big N, led by Hiroshi Yamauchi, wanted to expand into the American arcade industry. They had two games up their sleeves: Donkey Kong and Radar Scope.

Stone later moved over to the big rival SEGA, where he acted as president and CEO of Sega Enterprises, which was the arcade arm of the company. His latest known position was being on the board of directors at Nanotech Entertainment.

Intergame quotes his friend, saying „”He had bravely fought cancer, yet throughout all maintained his dignity and humor. He was a businessman with the highest integrity and the finest business ethic.”

In the video below, Stone, who passed away at the age of 71 on Friday, February 17, talks about his past in 2013. Rest in peace.

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
