4K And PSVR? Nintendo Considers This Route As A Death Route For Them!

Nintendo doesn’t want to follow the technologies of the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC.

While Sony and Microsoft take steps towards the 4K resolution, HDR, or virtual reality, Nintendo does not follow these trends. (And yet, they still pull in strong sales – in December, the Switch was the best-selling console…) Philippe Lavoué, Nintendo France’s general manager, told LesNumeriques the following. (The translation is done by WCCFTech.)

„We are very pragmatic. You look at VR headsets; I have doubts about their ability to seduce the public. And consumers are not patient with entertainment if you are not able to offer them a complete solution. As for 4K, should we invest in a technology that is not widely adopted? Where are the 4K screens today? Should we invest before the consumer has adopted the technology? We can not invest everywhere. And what will be new compared to competitors? If we do the same thing as others, we are doomed to die because we are smaller than them. With the Switch, we have the merit of proposing different uses adapted to the pace of users’ lives. The advantage is to be able to fit into your daily life. The use of video games thus becomes less exceptional.”

Still, there’s a way for a healthy middle route: what if the Nintendo Switch had stronger specifications (with possibly a not too high price tag) – how would its first ten months have gone?

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
