A New PlayStation 4 Firmware Arrives… With A Weird Numbering!

What happened to Sony when they „christened” the new PlayStation 4 firmware?

The 5.53-01 (indeed, it ends with -01!) is the second system software update this month. It’s not even as big as the usual firmware updates, as it weighs only 71 megabytes instead of the usual 300-400. That’s not a dangerously large download, is it?

We don’t know what this firmware does (going by the name, it’s likely a patch for the 5.53 system software update…), as it doesn’t even require a restart. You install it and then continue doing what you were doing before. Sony might be doing more regular, smaller updates from this point.

However, that name really makes us think that the Japanese company screwed something up with the 5.53 firmware (which was already in the news before for European users, as they had to accept to submitting service data to continue using online services). Oh well, that download can be done in no time.
