No Man’s Sky’s designer admits that he made mistakes

„I personally made mistakes” – Sean Murray said.

No Man’s Sky was released nearly two years ago in August 2016 for PC and PS4. It got a lot of negative reviews both from the critics and the community, mainly because it’s lack of polish and content. A lot of people felt that they didn’t get what they were promised. Since then, the game evolved a lot and now just before NEXT’s release Sean Murray thought it’s finally a good time to speak about the controversy.

„Whilst I couldn’t be prouder of the team, I personally made mistakes. I could talk all day about things I personally would change. Certainly, one regret is that the intensity and drama of launch left no room for communication with the community.”

Murray also stated that now they only want to talk about things that are definitely will be or are in the game and they also want to focus more on the development rather than on the words.

By the way, No Man’s Sky is extremely popular. According to Murray, more than 1 million people played when the latest update, Atlas Rises released. On average, players played it for 45 hours, 20% of the players played it for 100 hours and 5% of them reached 1000 hours.

Finally, Murray also said the following: “One day I hope to reach a point where I feel No Man’s Sky is ‘finished,’ but luckily there’s still so much more we want to do,” Murray said. “Working on NEXT feels important to us, but I know it’s not the end of the journey. We know the journey would be more fun together”.
