Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Might Get A Battle Royale Mode, Too

Compared to the Treyarch-developed Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII, Infinity Ward‘s game will have a different approach.

We don’t mean what Infinity Ward has said (they will focus on the multiplayer – we’ll discuss it a paragraph below…), but what a Twitter user named LongSensation has shared: „So apparently Battle Royale in [Call of Duty:] Modern Warfare will be a free mode to release in early 2020. It will be downloadable as a separate game, but also will still be connected to the core game. If this is true then it’s a very good move by Activision. Likely the intro will be “INFINITY WARD” “RAVEN SOFTWARE” “ACTIVISION” then a loading screen taking you to the main menu for Battle Royale.”

„We focused on Modern Warfare, authentic and gritty, realistic weapons, and it’s a different experience. It’s just about pulling back to Modern Warfare and keeping that pure. Infinity Ward has big fans of battle royale. We’re excited for large player counts and things like that, but right now we’re focused on core multiplayer. We have pushed our networking engineers to allow us to have more players. On the technical side, we’ve had to do a ton of work on the multiplayer side to make things more efficient so we could push the player counts higher and higher and higher,” Joe Cecot, the multiplayer design director, told IGN. His comment hinted at the rumour that came out a few days later, so something might be happening.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and if the rumours are true, the battle royale mode could follow in early 2020 as free-to-play mode – it might be a substantial move (financially) for Activision, although Black Ops IIII battle royale named Blackout still runs well.
