Samurai Shodown: The Nintendo Switch Port In Action [VIDEO]

After the PlayStation and the Xbox One, SNK‘s traditional Japanese weapon fighting game, Samurai Shodown is going to show up on the Nintendo Switch, too.

The Nintendo Switch port will come with exclusive features. It’s going to be playable anywhere, any time in TV Mode, Table Mode, and Handheld Mode. In Table and TV modes, two players can play together with a single Joy-Con per player. The frame rate will be be 60 FPS in both TV and Portable mode. Early purchases (in Japan!) of Samurai Shodown include a Switch port of Samurai Shodown! 2, which was originally released for Neo Geo Pocket Color in 1999. The game features 32 playable chibi-style characters.

We have to emphasize that everything following this sentence will be Japan-only things (the game is called Samurai Spirits over there), so we might see some differences in the West! We won’t write the pricing because of it. The game will be available in a Standard Edition (physical and digital), or the Deluxe Pack (digital, includes Season Pass). There will be a Season Pass 1 (with four additional characters), but you can also buy standalone additional characters (Rimururu, Basara, Kazuki Kazama, and Wan-Fu) as well. Shizumaru Hisame is free, though.

SNK Online Shop has several more exclusive versions: Limited Pack (includes Neo Geo rom-style cassette case and Neo Geo Freak Vol. 2), Game Pouch Set (includes game pouch and Neo Geo Freak Vol. 2), Sound Track Set (includes Samurai Shodown original soundtrack and Neo Geo Freak Vol. 2), Limited Pack Game Pouch Set (Limited Pack + Game Pouch Set), Limited Pack Sound Track Set (Limited Pack + Sound Track Set), Sound Track & Game Pouch Set (Sound Track + Game Pouch Set – they are really milking this…), and the Limited Pack Sound Track & Game Pouch Set (…seriously? Everything mentioned until now) SNK tries to get a lot of money from its domestic fans.

Samurai Shodown‘s PC version will launch this winter, and the Japanese launch of the Nintendo Switch port is due December 12. We might get it this year, too.
