Obsidian Entertainment Is Recruiting For Their New RPG

This game will be exclusive to Windows 10 and the next-gen Xbox (Xbox Project Scarlett – only the codename is known at the moment of the console that will launch at the end of next year).

Sure, one of the Xbox Game Studios, Obsidian Entertainment, is putting the final touches on their next game, the Outer Worlds (out on October 25 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and later, a Nintendo Switch port will also arrive), they already have the capacity to start looking for people for their next project. Thus, it’s no surprise they are recruiting on LinkedIn. They have eleven job offers for a „world-class RPG” that will use Unreal Engine 4 (just like how The Outer Worlds uses it), meaning Obsidian doesn’t want to change game engines. The job offers cover multiplayer (network programmer, gameplay programmer with „multiplayer game development experience”), but the most interesting one is the combat designer post with an emphasis on melee combat:

„Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a Combat Designer with proven experience developing first-person melee combat gameplay to join our team of talented developers. This role will work closely with artists, animators, audio, and gameplay programmers to determine the overall flow, look, and feel of the total combat experience. The ideal candidate will be someone who can collaboratively plan and create fun, visceral, and epic combat including the main character, AI characters, and gameplay objects across varied encounter types,” the job listing says.

As Microsoft has previously said that the Xbox Game Studios titles will not expand to other platforms, don’t let the multiplatform term fool you: the game will be on Windows 10 and the next-gen Xbox, and not the next-gen PlayStation (PlayStation 5?) or the Nintendo Switch (or whatever the big N will do after it).
